NEW YORK COUNTY THIRD VICE-CHAIR & NEW YORK STATE JUDICIAL DELEGATE
NEW YORK COUNTY THIRD VICE-CHAIR & NEW YORK STATE JUDICIAL DELEGATE
I hope you will join me for a significant movement in 2021. We hope you enjoy learning more about me and take a moment to drop us a line. I was hoping you could look and see my life and professional experiences, which have formulated a true Leader from the Community for the Community!
Kelmy Rodriquez is born and raised in Spanish Harlem (East Harlem), New York. He has seen the short-term and long-term effects of poverty, social disadvantage, domestic violence, gang activity, drug dependency, illiteracy, and bullying in many communities.
Kelmy has endured and triumphed over years of personal hardships and tribulations such as addiction, social deviance, sexual abuse, and the murders of his mother, his fiancé, and his daughter from gun violence.
For years he found himself continually struggling with addiction and mental illness, resulting in suicidal tendencies until he was inspired to break the chains with divine intervention. He became an example that we can strive to be better for God, ourselves, our families, and our communities.
He has continuously advocated for the creation of Anti-Bullying programs for our Children and Senior Citizens, Preventing Food Insecurity and Evictions, Affordable Housing, Improved NYCHA living conditions, Section 3 Implementation, and skilled trades careers for NYCHA residents, Job Development programs, working relationships between City agencies and Community Leaders, Drug Dependency programs along with Community Health programs and an end to the revised Jim Crow Drug Laws.
Kelmy, as an Executive Board Member of 700 Strong and 700 Strong Voices Inc, they have dedicated years to fight for improvements and opportunities in our public housing developments and continue to strive to change the lives of all NYCHA residents. Kelmy understands the struggles of public housing residents daily as a Carver Houses resident.
Kelmy is a former New York City Emergency Medical Specialist with years of experience working throughout New York City. A former Westchester County Emergency Medical Services Supervisor, Special Operations Division. He is a Homeless Prevention and Housing Preservation Specialist and actively serves as a Trauma Chaplain for the M.T.A. New York City Transit and currently serves as Priest at the Celtic Cross Old Catholic Church. He also serves at All Saints Priory, Missionary Benedictines of the Poor in Ridgewood, New York.
With such a demanding list of responsibilities, he still invests time volunteering in the community and as an Assistant Secretary at the Neighborhood Advisory Board #11, Department of Youth and Community Development, which covers the East Harlem community. During his leisure time, he enjoys being a Contributing Writer at GOD TV. He enjoys fellowship between clergy leaders throughout the city of all faiths to discuss issues that affect all of us and identify opportunities to bridge relationships in all parts of our communities.
He is a father of 4 children and has a Seminary degree in Systematic Theology with a minor in Christian Counseling; he is currently pursuing a degree in Legal Studies where he has earned membership into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Kelmy has been a news contributor regarding Community Policing, Public Policy, Public Health, and Safety matters on various news networks such as CNN, WPIX 11, FOX 5, NBC 4, 1010 WINS, Telemundo 47, Univision 41, and Channel 7 Eyewitness News gaining national and international exposure.
Kelmy is currently an Adjunct Professor at the Celtic Cross Seminary of Theology and is in the process of publishing his first book, "Axioms of An Urban Priest," "An Ongoing Journey of Revelations." His second book, "From the Gutter to GOD," is expected to be released in 2023.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all the County Democratic Committee members who nominated and elected me to become one of our newest New York County Vice-Chairman during the 2019 Democratic County Convention.
Now! I am compelled to fight for resources and a better quality of life in our neighborhood by creating working relationships within the Community and Political - ending discords amongst divisions to better our livelihood for all people within the East Harlem Community. I stood by hoping that our current leadership would do more for the Community and leave the quid pro quo. It is time that these occupied spaces in our community leaders are accountable for the lack of support and resources in our Community!
My focus is on increasing voter engagement and reinvigorate the election process. Improved NYCHA conditions and employment opportunities for the residents. A feasible community-policy policy that leaves a positive impact and does not continue to marginalize our people.
I am well aware of the pain and trauma the families of victims must endure. We need to formulate a plan with the local government, Community, and Faith Leaders to end the plague of gun violence in our Community. This social issue. has been a missed opportunity because many have failed to stand firm together in concert as one!
We are in the process of creating an Immigration clinic, Food distribution site, eviction prevention resources and services, and job development with skilled training, along with many other opportunities that the current District Leader has failed to do within his 20 years of leadership.
We have done great things up to this point- but we have room for growth; let us continue to strive for progress. Imagine what we can do if we win the next Democratic Primary in 2021! It is time to give power back to the people!
No one person can fix all of our Community Issues! However, I believe the time has come to line up the stars and put together a "Dream Team" that will serve the people and not their own political and personal agendas. We have been rock bottom for so long; it is time we rise!
I will commit to you that if you elect me to be your new District Leader for the 68th Assembly District Leader, Part B, you will have a leader who will fight for you, and rest assure there will be resources in place for our fight! No one person can correct the multiple issues we are facing, but we can stand and fight together until we move the scales towards us!
